A shirt tail hem dress refashion is so easy and makes an old dress feel like a new one!
I hit upon this idea while I was getting ready for bed one evening. As usual, I got all excited and couldn't wait for morning so I could get started!
So just as a warning: not all my late night inspirations are actually so awesome in the light of day! 😂
Here goes...
This idea works so good to take an old dress, like one that never wears out, one that you're kind of tired of but there's no reason to throw away, and give it a new look!
This is the dress I chose to put a shirt tail hem on. I haven't done this type of hem on a dress before so will see how it goes. 😏
Shirt tail hem dress refashion: step 1
First I folded the skirt in half matching up the side seams. Then I laid one of my hubby's shirts on top matching front and back and side seams of the shirt with skirt.
Then I just followed the hemline of the shirt and drew a new hemline on the dress. That line doesn't show up very well. 🤔
Step 2
Then I used my new handy dandy clips to line up the skirts so I could cut both sides at once.
And cut the new hem, cutting off the old hem on the straight places.
Step 3
Then I folded it over twice about a quarter inch each fold and topstitched.
And there is my "new" dress! 💃
A shirt tail hem dress refashion does not take long and it gets you a new dress a lot faster than starting from scratch! 😊
Maybe you have some ideas doing a dress refashion. I would love to hear them! 😊
