Knowing how to grade your skirt pattern gives you the tools you need to get your skirt to fit the way you want without feeling self-conscious about how it looks.
Wearing a dress with a well fitting skirt that isn't too tight around the hips just feels so good doesn't it? How to get there is another story.
THIS blog on taking your hip measurement shows you how to take your hip measurement a little differently so that you can get a more accurate measurement.
Now it's time to adjust the skirt pattern so that the skirt will really fit.
How to grade your skirt pattern: sizing
Since pattern sizing measurements don't include all body shapes, pattern grading is necessary a lot of times.
First you need to compare is your waist measurement with the pattern chart. Find the pattern size that best fits your waist measurement.
Next, take your new hip measurement and compare with the pattern sizes. Again find the pattern size that best fits that measurement.
If those two measurements are for different sizes then this is where the pattern grading comes in.
How to grade your skirt pattern: the grading
This is the front skirt pattern from the Cassia Dress.
On your pattern locate the size that fits your waist. This is where you will start. Now locate the size that fits your hip measurement.
Now draw a line from the smaller size to the larger size. The highlighted line shows the grading from L to XL.
You can do the same thing to grade one or more sizes up.
And that's it! Easy peasy! 😊
