Mastering time, seizing the minutes you have

And how to get to the sewing projects that lurk in the back of your mind.

There are thousands of tasks that lurk in the back of our minds. But some bother us more than others.

Getting to the sewing machine and actually cranking out a dress takes more time and energy than you have sometimes.

So what is the solution to this problem? How is it possible to get those things done when everything else takes so much attention?

What just determination can do

I know that crying doesn’t usually fix anything, but the frustration of not getting to something and always having to deal with the knowledge of unfinished tasks can lead to negative emotions.

Tears want to run down your face as you think about all those things that you aren’t getting to.

Frustration builds as you realize how far away the possibility is of ever getting them completed.

Let’s look at it this way.

What is the most important task you absolutely can’t miss when you get up in the morning?

Like, if you missed it your day would just be wrong? Getting dressed, combing your hair, eating breakfast?

Whatever it is, you get it done, right?

And you get it done without a lot of forethought. It just happens.

What if it could work the same way with those tasks that you aren’t getting to? (like sewing)

What if you could work on them and it wouldn’t actually take a lot of planning?

Then here’s what you do to get some sewing done. Or any other task that is lurking in the back of your mind.

It really boils down to something very simple.

Determination.

Determine in your mind that on this day at this time you are going to sew.

And do it!

On that day and at that time, drop everything else, and sew!

Next step

Having determination is all you need to get something done.

What? That’s it? That’s not enough! I’ve got to have more than just determination!

I need time too! Lots of time!

No, listen!

You can do anything you set your mind to!

Even if you think you don’t have time!

Say “I will” instead of “I should”. I will sew a dress this week, instead of, I should sew a dress this week.

And that’s it! You’re on a roll!

Anticipate lots of new dresses getting sewn! 😊😍

How it works in real life

One day I finally just told myself, that this is it. I have got to sew and nothing is going to keep me from it.

So I blocked off time in my already busy day.

I decided that after my morning routine was done I was going to sit down at my sewing machine and sew for 20 minutes.

Every. Day.

And again right after lunch, before I went on to other tasks I would sew for 20 minutes.

Well, wouldn’t you know, that really got the ball rolling!

And a lot of dresses have been sewn since I made that decision!

Just one decision!

Ok, I used the same pattern for quite a few of those dresses. But I couldn’t help it because that pattern worked so well!

It was quick and easy and it fit! What more does a person want?

Doesn’t that sound workable?

I’m excited for you!

Conclusion

Determination, girl, is all it takes! Determine within yourself to get to that task that is just never getting done. Determine that nothing is going to stop you from accomplishing that task!

And finally, block that time, that day or days, and get ‘er done!

You got this!

What is the one thing that lurks in the back of your mind that should have got done last month?

  • I love the idea of sewing for 20 minutes after your morning routine and after lunch! My problem is that when I start sewing it’s hard to quit! Then I end up just keeping on and not getting my other work done.🤔

The thing that should have got done last month is cleaning up my storage room! I will have to try doing it in 20 minute sessions.
