There are 3 ingredients to a becoming dress. Three things that can make all the difference in how a dress feels, and how it looks on you.
When you put on your favorite dress and stand in front of the mirror what are you saying to yourself?
Ok, it is really easy to look in the mirror and be critical of what we see. Put that aside, and just look at the dress and how it looks on you. What makes it your favorite?
There are 3 main things that make that dress the best dress. And this can be for a dress you have purchased but more so for a dress you have sewn for yourself, since you have control over what design is used and the choice of fabric.
The first thing is that it fits. Somehow the dress fits. It's not too baggy and not too tight. It's comfortable and nothing feels binding or needs adjusting.
And sometimes we don't even know how it happened that the dress fits. But the next ingredient plays a big part in the fit of the dress.
The second thing is the design and how it balances out the body shape or body type. If the pattern design balances out the body shape, giving the illusion of a proportioned silhouette, the fit of the dress is going to come easier because the design looks good for that body type.
So as you are standing in front of the mirror with your favorite dress on, take note of your silhouette. Is it well proportioned?
The third ingredient in a beautiful dress is the color. When I was younger, I remember shopping fabric with my mom. Whenever I picked out a fabric I really liked she always held it up to me and made sure the color looked good on me. With my skin tone, hair color, and eye color.
What color is that favorite dress? How does it look with your skin tone and color? How does it look with your hair color or even your eyes?
The next time you go fabric shopping take your best friend along and see what fabrics you can find that look good on you. You might find out that it's colors you haven't considered wearing before. That means you get to step out of the box and do something different. 😊
And the best thing about that is that you get to go shopping with your best friend. 😄
So 3 ingredients to a becoming dress, a dress that looks and feels beautiful...are good fit, pattern design that creates balance, and color that is right for you.
